3D Printing A Clothes Rail Fastening

A friend of mine came up to me with a request: To replicate this thing.

A fastening for a clothes rail

It’s a fastening for a clothes rail. Two of these go on either side into a wardrobe. A screw fits into the hole at the top and the clothes rail is placed in the U-shape at the bottom.

Unfortunately, my friend had misplaced one of the fastenings and could no longer put the clothes rail up. Fortunately, she remembered that I had a 3D printer and asked me to help out.

So I replicated that part to my best effort in FreeCAD and printed it.

The printed and original part side by side

It’s not a perfect match but it turned out okay. I printed the part on its side so that the layer lines give it strength against the downward pull of the clothes rail.

I got the update that the part fits and the clothes rail is already back in use. This is one of the applications of 3D printers I like the most, as I get to help someone and to fiddle around in my CAD software.
