Hungry Software Engineers
Someone please feed the software engineers! They are so hungry that they start naming all things after tasty treats.
Even early Android versions had the toast: A little informational popup. Eventually the snackbar was introduced which was a bit bigger and could have action buttons. If you wanted to bring up the side panel, which is going out of fashion nowadays, you could press three horizontal lines known as the hamburger menu.
The Android developers probably weren’t allowed to eat up to 2019 when the first non-food related version of Android released. Their cravings leaked into the alphabetically ordered Android version names: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, Nougat, Oreo, Pie. I can imagine Google being under immense pressure denying their team a dessert starting with “Q”.
The hamburger menu got popular on the web and sometimes changed into a waffle menu for switching between different app-like subspaces on websites.
You might have also noticed interfaces that feature card like content to have three little dots to show you some more options you can perform with this card. The three little falafel balls give their name to the falafel menu.
Would you like some passwords with that? With salt and pepper? Or do you just want some spaghetti code with some syntax sugar?
After all that food it might be nice to have a drink, since hydration is very important. I use a Mac and as a developer it is vital for me to pour some bottles from homebrew. If I’m feeling bold I might tap a new cask.
If you’re doing any sort of web scraping you probably came accross some beautiful soup and the more criminally inclined might have stepped into some honeypots.
Writing this post made me a bit hungry myself. It’s a tragedy that my website does not use cookies.
